HERE is a small round-up of Andover cases from Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court last week.

An Andover man who assaulted a man and damaged his car has been jailed.

Douglas Morton, 48, of Galahad Close, pleaded guilty to assault by beating a man in Andover on March 8. He also pleaded guilty to damaging a Ford to the value of £300 on the same day.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court sent him to jail for 22 weeks saying the offences are so serious that only a custodial sentence could be justified.

The court said Morton had a flagrant disregard for people and their property.

He was given 14 weeks jail for the assault, consecutive to eight weeks activation of a suspended sentence order.

A woman has been banned for drink driving in Andover.

Melissa Kemp, 30, of Amesubry in Salisbury, pleaded guilty to driving a Ford Fiesta on Winchester Road in Andover on August 31, when the proportion of alcohol in her breath was 72mg.

The legal limit is 35mg.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court banned her from driving for 22 months and fined her £550.

She will get a reduction of 22 weeks on her ban if she completes a driving course.

A drink driver from Stockbridge has been fined hundreds of pounds.

Michael Fuller, 31, of High Street in Stockbridge, pleaded guilty to driving a Land Rover in Stockbridge on August 27, when the proportion of alcohol in his breath was 56mg.

The legal limit is 35mg.

Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court banned him from driving for 14 months and fined him £523. He will get a reduction of 14 weeks in the disqualification if he undertakes a course.
