THE MP for North West Hampshire is making the case for more police patrols in Whitchurch to tackle anti-social behaviour.

It comes after a meeting with residents to discuss reported drug taking and vandalism at the 5-hectare Danieln Park on the edge of the town.

Speaking after the meeting, Kit Malthouse said: "We are very fortunate to have Daniel Park in Whitchurch —a spot where local people can enjoy community facilities such as the skatepark and orchard while surrounded by beautiful wildlife and biodiversity.

"The meadows are home to many species of wildflowers, insects, birds and mammals — including the field vole.

"Sadly, residents have informed me about reported antisocial behaviour in the park including drug taking, vandalism, loud music and foul language. There seems to be a spike in people driving out to the park whenever the police are cracking down on anti-social behaviour in Andover. We need more policing resources allocated to the area, particularly late at night, and I am making the case to our Police and Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones."

Four months ago the Commissioner announced extra funding for over 25 anti-social behaviour projects across Hampshire. PCC Donna Jones added “Anti-social behaviour casts a dangerous shadow over many of our communities.  Severely impacting the quality of life for residents it also threatens livelihoods and negatively imprints on the wider community as a whole.”
