A GP surgery will relocate to a new and larger facility in a village north of Andover if plans are approved.

The White House Surgery, which has been serving the Enham Alamein community from 1 Newbury Road, will relocate to Carpenters Cottage, as part of redevelopment of the currently vacant building.

A planning application for the move has been submitted to Test Valley Borough Council by the Enham Trust, proposing a temporary repurposing of the building.

If approved, the new premises will allow the surgery to expand its operations and provide enhanced healthcare services to the Enham community.

The application outlines plans to transform Carpenters Cottage, a red-brick building within the Enham Place complex, into a multifunctional space.

In addition to hosting the surgery, the building will also accommodate a hairdresser, office space, and a rentable community facility.

The proposed changes include internal alterations to create four commercial units to enable the building to serve multiple community purposes.

This is planned for a temporary period of six years, while the Enham Trust develops long-term redevelopment strategies for the area.

Carpenters Cottage, located off Newbury Road, was previously used for both residential and commercial purposes.

It has been vacant since its previous use as residential accommodation for supported shared living facility was deemed unsuitable.

The relocation of the White House Surgery to the site will bring the building back to life and ensure that vital healthcare services remain easily accessible to Enham Alamein residents, according to the plan.

The village was originally established for the rehabilitation of injured and war-disabled soldiers returning from World War I, with the village becoming a hub for the care of soldiers and retraining in new trades.

This formed the basis of the Enham Trust, which owns the majority of Enham Alamein village.

Enham Place is a complex of buildings with a mixture of uses, located within the village and accessed off Newbury Road (A343).

Enham Alamein parish council has already given a letter of no objection for the plans.
