Barclays has opened a new cashless banking service in Andover, following the closure of its High Street branch.

Barclays Local, in the Chantry Centre, was officially opened by MP Kit Malthouse and councillors Iris Andersen and Jan Budzynski.

The new site offers a range of services including financial reviews, balance requests, savings account openings and digital banking support.

However, as a cashless site, everyday banking transactions must be completed at the local Post Office.

Mr Malthouse said: "I am really pleased to see the Barclays Local here at the Chantry Centre.

"This is an accessible space for customers to be able to discuss their banking and financial needs.

"It is a great collaboration which benefits all involved."

Councillor Phil North, leader of Test Valley Borough Council, said: "This is brilliant news for local residents and Chantry Centre customers.

"I am delighted that we have been able to facilitate this new offering, as many people still value the ability to go into their bank and speak to someone face to face."

The new service, located at the glass office in the shopping centre, comes following the closure of Barclays bank in the town centre in May.

The Barclays Local service is open Monday to Friday from 9.30am to 4.30pm, with a closure for lunch from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.
