The owners of a family-run restaurant in Andover are celebrating winning a top food accolade for its traditional Indian fare.
The Light of Asia, in the High Street, has been honoured with a Good Food Award for ‘Best Indian restaurant in the area’. Owner Mr Abu Saleh said he was delighted by the win:
“This award is a testament to the quality we aim to deliver throughout our entire dining experience. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our loyal customers for their unwavering support and for voting for us to receive this award. We also want to recognise and thank our dedicated staff for their hard work.”
The Light of Asia is the oldest Indian restaurant in Andover and first opened nearly 50 years ago. It’s remained in the same family ownership ever since and Mr Saleh believes its strong local reputation is one of the reasons for its success:
“We serve traditional Indian food and offer a first-class service to all our customers, that’s why they keep coming back.”

In 2018 the restaurant re-opened after an extensive refurbishment. Situated in the historic conservation area, the building is over 400 years old and Grade 2 listed. Mr Saleh thinks the historic wood-beamed dining area and modern décor, demonstrate that it’s possible to blend the old with the new with the menu:
“We aim to offer a menu with both traditional favourites and some special dishes developed by our kitchen team, led by our head chef with over 25 years experience. This blend of tradition, innovation, quality food, and good service is we believe the secret to our continuing popularity and high level of regular customers."
The Good Food Awards says it 'recognises culinary excellence in their field and rate food quality, service and value. The honour, a ‘Blue Ribbon’ is bestowed upon those with high customer ratings.'
Mr Saleh added: “The fact this award is based on votes from our customers makes it all the more special.”
