YVONNE Waghorn, a pensioner from Andover, believes the drop in VAT will have no effect on her.

“It’s not going to make people spend more,” she said.

“You can never tell with the Government, they tell you one thing in opposition and do the exact opposite when they get into power.

“They should have thought about this before, not now that everything has gone bad.

“If the Government had thought about it before the crisis started then maybe people would have more money to spend at Christmas.”
