RESIDENTS who see motorcyclists riding illegally around Andover’s country parks and other attractions should report the matter to police even if officers do not necessarily respond straight away, it was suggested at a meeting.
Andover Councillors’ Forum heard that Ladies Walk, Rooksbury Mill and Anton Lakes have all suffered from this problem but it can be tackled successfully.
Forum chairman Carl Borg-Neal said he had experience of action being taken when matters had been referred to police at Anton Lakes, which is close to his home.
“When calls are made to police they will look at the number of calls they get in particular places and can notice any hot-spots,” he said.
“Six motorbikes have already been crushed as a result of a targeted sweep.”
Andover inspector Darius Hemmatpour said: “We can only go on information that we have received.”
Cllr Pam Mutton raised the issue of how police were responding after reports of motorcyclists’ inappropriate use of Ladies Walk.
