HUNDREDS of Christmas market stalls and an open-air ice rink have taken over Winchester Cathedral Inner Close.

The Christmas Market will be running until 20 December while the ice rink will stay open until 3 January.

The market features more than 90 wooden chalets all beautifully decorated and filled with fabulous, unique and inspiring gifts, decorations and festive foods.

Within the market will be a British Crafts Village dedicated to exhibitors who design and produce their products in the UK, a tempting food court selling a wide range of festive treats that can be enjoyed on the spot or wrapped for gifts, a Father Christmas grotto and, for the first time, a life-size nativity scene.

This will be the fourth annual Christmas market and ice rink and the opening of both events will start with a lantern procession at 6.30pm, culminating in a ceremony at the ice rink at 7pm.

It is anticipated that more than 350,000 people will attend this year’s market, and as well as the stalls and ice rink a series of events have been planned to entertain the visitors.

These events include a carol concert, author Michael Morpurgo narrating On Angel Wings, the Christmas Story and holiday activities.
