WHITCHURCH, bouyed no doubt by their midweek win over Fleet Town in the North Hants Senior Cup, returned to winning ways.
They came from behind to defeat Fawley in a game that was possibly much closer than the scoreline suggests.
United were without the suspended Mitch Fear and Jamie Mansell but still started the brighter.
Josh Harfield sent Danny Phillips clear and the striker curled his shot past Joe Prodomo in the home goal, only to see it bounce to safety off the far post.
The same player was then just wide from a Ryan Lambert through ball before Rudi Plummer opened the scoring after 11 minutes.
The lead was almost instantly doubled but Lambert’s shot came back off the post with Phillips’ follow up blocked.
Fawley turned the game on its head with two goals in the space of five minutes.
Firstly, the Whitchurch defence froze allowing Ben Bolton to head home unchallenged from a right wing cross before two defenders collided and Dylan Knight swept the loose ball past Brad Snelling.
Fawley were denied a third when Snelling turned a freekick round the post before Phillips, looking conspicuously offside, was allowed to fasten on to a Jack McCarthy through ball and lob the advancing keeper to level.
Whitchurch regained the lead when Lambert’s corner-kick was headed in by Harfield.
Whitchurch started the second half as they had finished the first with Scott Hassell striking the bar after fastening on to a Phillips pass.
It was 4-2 11 minutes into the second half when Phillips made ground on the left and crossed for McCarthy to head home.
Jack Garner, a second half replacement for Danny Barker, split the home defence and McCarthy’s shot found the net with Prodomo left standing.
Plummer took a blow in the face allowing Tyler Lewis to see out the final minutes in his place.
