ANDOVER Ladies travelled to New Milton for the second round of the touch rugby series with real optimism after a summer recruitment campaign brought several new promising players to the club.
For the first game against Fareham Heathens, Andover fielded a mix of experienced and new players and attacked well and good supporting play from Emma Downton and Claire Hollinshead allowed both Abby Goddard and Susan Mitchell to score.
Good defensive play by Kim Powell made sure the score remained 2-0 to Andover at the final whistle.
Next Andover were up against Fordingbridge and again good attacking play by Lisa Wood and Vicki Brown almost led to two quick tries which were both disallowed.
In defence, Lara MacDonald and Amanda Wood kept Fordingbridge at bay resulting in a 0-0 draw.
Next up was a young New Milton side and Andover soon started to score with tries from Hollinshead, MacDonald and two from the prolific Goddard.
In defence Tara Bradbury, Tanith Burdock and Aga Tyszewicz were strong and communicated brilliantly to ensure that New Milton were unable to score, resulting in a 4-0 win.
Andover came away as joint winners with Fordingbridge.
