After an up and down season, the last match of the Summer saw a clash between mother and daughter as Andover took on Salisbury’s B team at Salisbury.
Jennie Pope’s daughter, Suzy was playing for Salisbury but it was Mum and her partner Ant Brown who came out on top, 6-0, 6-1, with Brown’s power and Pope’s consistency too much for the less experienced Salisbury pair.
Shaun McDonald and Kate Gailey had a closer match with the Salisbury first pair, sharing the sets, 2-6, 6-1. McDonald and Brown proved just too good for the Salisbury men, with powerful serving from Brown and sharp volleying from McDonald giving them the edge, 7-5, 6-4.
The ladies also had to work to win both sets, 6-1, 7-5. Overall a satisfying 7-1 win for Andover and a consoling hug for daughter.
