The Andover Lawn Tennis team have had a wonderful summer, and nearly managed to achieve success in both the First Division and the Knockout Cup.
In the eight matches played in Division 1, they made a strong start, winning against Wellow B and Pythouse.
The following match against Wellow A was a battle. At half time, it was two sets all, with Anthony Brown and Jennie Pope having managed to take their sets. Then in the men’s match, Anthony and Andrew Winnett made it four sets to two. So it was up to the ladies to try and achieve a win.
Having lost the first set 6-3, they managed a victory with a 6-3 final set.
This match set them up for a winning streak, which continued right through to the final match and ensured that the trophy was Andover’s before the last match.
Andover then lost against close rivals Salisbury A.
The Knockout cup was played throughout the summer, and Andover won through the rounds to face the same Salisbury A in the finals.
The match was played at Salisbury Tennis Club’s Harnham home. The ladies went off to a very strong start, with Flavia and Kate taking the first two games, but that set was lost in a tiebreak. The men fought long and hard, but eventually, Salisbury were just too strong for them.
A fantastic season was enjoyed by all, with the League won and just one match short of a League and Cup double.
