A NEW cricket club based in Andover celebrated its first season with an awards evening.
East Anton Cricket Club, based at the sports field at Augusta Park, began late last year and just completed their first summer season this year.
They played 20 friendlies during this summer and will be playing in division six of the Hampshire Cricket League next season.
The club are also planning to grow into a real hub for the local community by opening a youth academy next summer which is being supported by Hampshire Cricket Club.
Club chairman and captain Sam Newton said the club’s target next season will be to get promoted to division five.
“We will be playing double the number of games next summer. So we are looking forward to it.
“Plus, then we have a children's cricket academy planned as well. So there’s a lot of work going on next season.”
The end-of-season awards evening at the Town Mills on Saturday, November 12, was attended by members and their partners.
