A CRICKET club are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year on the back of their most successful season in recent years.
Thruxton Cricket Club are looking to go from strength to strength and gain another promotion after achieving their best season for more than 10 years under new skipper Ben Simpson.
The year 2022 saw the Graham & Co-sponsored club win both indoor cricket leagues they took part in.
It was then followed up through the summer as they gained promotion to North West Division 5.
The campaign saw numerous stand-out performances including maiden centuries from brothers Rowan Grobler and Calvin Ryan, and half-centuries by nine different players.
Another landmark achievement of the season was from lifetime member Sean Yates who claimed the league’s leading wicket-taker award with 23 wickets.
Captain and wicketkeeper Ben Simpson also won the honour for the leading number of dismissals from behind the stumps.
The season also saw Grobler bowling an impressive eight-over spell – all eight of which were maidens.
The team also reached the semi-final of the inaugural T20 Hampshire Slam.
Thruxton CC and their loyal members had a wonderful outing at the Hampshire Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground as they reached the final four.
Club chairperson Gareth Wood said: "It’s been a truly marvellous effort by all, for a club like ours to thrive the way it has with bigger and better things to come. With this year being our 40th anniversary as a club, we have plans for a tour and a gala dinner. All previous club members are welcome.
“Thruxton CC are a fun-based side for all ages, genders and abilities with an affordable membership fee. The club are always on the lookout to welcome new members. With social events and winter cricket leagues, we are a 365-day club. Take a look at our Facebook page and get in touch.”
