Andover teenager Sam Ashman notched his maiden Hampshire Academy half-century against Guernsey in the county youth team's mini-pre season Channel Islands tour.
The 16-year old from Collingbourne joined the Ageas Bowl academy this winter after an outstanding 2022 batting season in which he scored over 550 runs to help Andover get promoted by finishing runners-up in Southern Premier League Division 2.
He was later named Hampshire U15 Player of the Year.
Opening the batting, Ashman made a patient 62 before being seventh out at 128, the Academy having lost their way after a bright 51-run start and finished 146 all out. Guernsey won by four wickets.
Ashman shone again in a second 50-over match and after Guernsey had been dismissed for 115, Ashman scored 34 and shared a key partnership with England U19 all-rounder Dom Kelly, which guided the Academy to within sight of a five-wicket victory.
