HAMPSHIRE'S racing drivers took to the track over the weekend for the latest round of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), writes Tim Crisp.
The event, held at Thruxton, saw a large crowd of spectators turn out to watch the action.
Harry Hickton from Kimpton, racing for the Westbourne Motorsport Team, started the first race in second place - in his Mini Cooper. He led the race around the 2.35-mile circuit for nine of the 12 laps, but dropped down to sixth place on lap 10. He fought back to finish fourth.
An incident at the start of the second race put pay to Hickton's weekend.

Another local driver, Harry Foster, was competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship. He finished 21st in the first race and 12th in the second, which now places him 10th overall in the championship and 3rd in the Rookie Class.
In the BTCC, Ricky Collard, driving for Toyota Gazoo Racing UK, finished 11th in the first race, 9th in the second and 5th in the third. This puts him 10th overall in the championship standings.
The star of the weekend was Ashley Sutton, in his NAPA Racing UK Ford Focus ST, who won both BTCC races. This puts him top of the championship table.
The next round of the BTCC will be held at Oulton Park on June 17-18.
