Stockbridge suffered their second defeat in the space of five days as they went down 3-1 at home to Bishops Waltham Dynamos.
It was their first defeat in six Hampshire Premier League games.
The visitors have been enjoying a fine run of form themselves, picking up a point against leaders Infinity and all three away to another promotion-chasing side in Locks Heath.
It was indeed the away side who struck first through Jamie Blackburn in the sixth minute, the midfielder sliding in to tap home a low cross after some neat play. (0-1)
After being second best for the opening quarter of an hour, the Robins began to threaten. First Chris Pye was unlucky to have the ball taken off his head by a good punch from Dynamos’ goalkeeper Kieran Connell, then Robins winger Adam Vince showed neat footwork before a good tackle prevented him from pulling the trigger inside the box.
Dow the other end Bishops Waltham nearly made it two when a free kick from an acute angle was pushed out by Kieran Wilson in the Stockbridge goal, who made an excellent point blank follow up save from goalscorer Blackburn.
The second half started in the worst possible fashion for the Robins when Tom Riddell pinched the ball off Stockbridge defender Sam Scannelli’s head - with what looked like a high boot - before lashing home a half volley from just inside the area. (0-2)
It was looking like it was going to be one of those days for Stockbridge and maybe their leg sapping rear guard action at Basingstoke Town on Tuesday was to blame for their sluggish performance.
The Robins top goalscorer Chris Pye uncharacteristically missed out from eight yards on 71 minutes, failing to convert a cross from substitute Stuart Pittaccio with a swivelling strike which may have given Stockbridge hope.
They were made to pay ten minutes later when tricky winger Jordon Smith controlled a diagonal ball, before chipping a stranded Wilson to make it 0-3.
The Robins did manage to pull one back three minutes before the end when good work from Chris Pye teed up Luke Neal for a simple tap in (1-3), but it was a case of too little too late and the away side saw out the remaining minutes for a deserved win.
