ANDOVER Triathlon Club hosted their annual event in July which attracted more than 300 athletes from across the south west and further afield.

The event, at Farleigh School in Red Rice, saw the adult races take place in the morning and consisted of The Andover Classic, a distance of a 440 metre swim, followed by a 30 kilometre cycle and finished with an eight kilometre run.

There was also a relay race over the same distance and a shorter sprint distance option.

The children’s races took place in the afternoon, in which nearly 200 competitors took part with age groups waves from eight through to 16 years old.

Most families stayed all afternoon picnicking and soaking up the atmosphere within the lovely grounds of Farleigh School.

Helen Daniels, the club’s chair, said: "The Andover Tri Event was very successful, loads of compliments and positive feedback from everywhere.

"Once again, hats off to Mimy and Rob Savill (race director) who have expertly organised the day.

"Big thanks for Nick Grace who has done a great job of coordinating the marshals.

"And, of course, a massive thank you to everyone for all the help you have collectively given to support the club over the weekend.

"Hopefully you felt you were part of a special day, with incredible teamwork, providing a brilliant day and opportunity for newbies and old hands to do triathlon."

The organisers said the event had a 'real carnival atmosphere' with music from LPS Event Services, which also provided the chip timing results and bike racking for the event.

Andover Triathlon Club is a non profit organisation so all proceeds will be put back into the club and the club will also be making charity donations to Bikeability and Mike Copping for his quest to save Whitchurch swimming pool.
