A ROWER from Andover has managed to secure a gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
A bronze medallist at Tokyo 2020, Charles Elwes was part of the winning team at the Olympics today (Saturday, August 3)
The Hampshire star joined forces with Sholto Carnegie, Jacob Dawson, Morgan Bolding, Rory Gibbs, Tom Digby, James Rudkin, Tom Ford, and coxswain Harry Brightmore to claim glory in the men’s eight final.
At time of writing, this victory brings the total gold medals won by Team GB to 10, with 29 medals achieved overall.

Speaking to the BBC after the race, Charles said: “I’d say 99.9 per cent of (the race) was perfect. We had a bit of a duff stroke on stroke one, and that really scared us.
“But I think, when you have a bit of a duff stroke, it fires you up to 120 per cent and we shot out of the start like a rocket and never looked back.”
