Town travelled down to Southsea to play Meon Milton, whom they had never met before. The two teams were separated by two divisions last season, so it was interesting to see how the match panned out.

Quite a windy and chilly sea breeze greeted the teams at kick-off on Saturday, August 31. Yet again it seemed bad that the so-called Hampshire Premier League couldn't supply linesmen, and subs ended up running the line which inevitably could lead to problems.

Meon started off brightly and for the first 15 minutes, Andover were off the pace and the opposition broke frequently into the penalty area. The game settled after the first quarter and Town grew more and more into the match which was becoming a dour midfield battle.

In the 27th minute, Town broke the deadlock when Ryan Morgans turned sharply in the box and coolly slid the ball home to make the score 1-0. They could easily have added a second when a point-blank shot was somehow clawed away by the Meon keeper.

Andover were defending well when the opposition pressed and centre-back Josh Holebrook consistently cleared any danger. The half-time score was 1-0.

As the second half progressed, Andover was controlling the game without really looking like they were going to add a second goal.

Whenever Meon threatened, keeper Chris Redshaw was in commanding form and dealt impressively with everything which came his way. Thus, the game ended at 1-0 and the second successive victory saw Town finding their feet in this league.

The next match is at Portway on Saturday, September 7, with kick-off at 3pm when Broughton are the visitors in the first round of the Hampshire Premier League Cup.

Broughton have had a great start to their season, having played five league games and winning all five.

They have scored 14 and conceded just four, so Town will have to be at their best if they are to progress further in the cup.
