An Andover schools athletics team achieved something this weekend that has not been seen for 35 years when they won team gold in fine style.
Eighteen Andover schools athletes competed in the Hampshire Schools Cross Country Championships, all aiming for a place in the Hampshire Schools team at the Inter-counties match (top 16) and ultimately the English Schools Cross Country Championships (top eight over the two races). This year, the championships were held in the grounds of Southampton Sports Centre on a very hilly, muddy and tough course.
The intermediate team of Alex Rudge (Testbourne), Chris Berntsen and Dan Grinham (John Hanson), Jake Selwood and Tom Bennett (Clere), Chris Adams (Test Valley) and Chris Neil (Rookwood) stole the show.
