Few Andover supporters will have needed reminding of Justin Bennett’s goal scoring prowess but that is just what happened at the Portway on Saturday as the likeable ex-Lion produced a skilful finish to clinch the game for Gosport with less than 60 seconds left on the clock.
It was a cruel blow for the Lions who had taken an early lead and given as good as they got in a game that was end to end from start to finish for, as against Taunton the previous Tuesday, they had played some skilful football but this time without converting scoring chances in to goals.
After a presentation by Alan Mussell to Bobby Swayne to mark the popular skipper's recent 200th appearance for the club the home side started with just one change from Tuesday with Paul Jones returning after suspension and Nic Eastham dropping to the bench alongside new signings Dave Lewis and Lloyd Webber, the latter starting his second spell.
