I HOPE the person who stole my mother’s handbag on the morning of 7 January is feeling satisfied at the distress he or she has caused an 86-year-old woman.

She had only left her car in The Chantry Centre car park for about 30 seconds to buy a parking ticket.

Apart from the inconvenience of cancelling her credit cards (which no-one else could use as she immediately went to the bank to cancel them) she has also lost her precious address book.

Perhaps the person responsible should reflect on how they would feel if their mother’s bag was stolen.

Tara Newman, Thruxton.
